Kingsway's Trainee of the Year

Some of WA’s top apprentices and trainees were formally recognised at Hospitality Group Training’s (HGT) 2007/2008 Annual Awards presentation at the Perth Concert Hall on Sunday, 31st August 2008 including Kingsway Christian College’s Luke Johnson.

Luke 17 of Greenwood, took home the award for “Trainee of the Year,” having been runner up in 2007 and is currently working at Joondalup Resort Hotel. Luke is a part time school based trainee with Hospitality Group Training and attends school at Kingsway Christian College.

Currently in Year Twelve, he is well in advance of other trainees…” exclaimed HGT General Manager Mr Iain McDougall. He has already completed his Certificate 2 in Hospitality, and has recently commenced his Certificate 3. “Luke intends to complete his Certificate 3 by the end of the year and move on to Certificate 4 in Hospitality Supervision - an outstanding effort for one so young,” Mr McDougall continued.

His host employer Joondalup Resort Hotel has already increased his area of responsibility and he is now assisting in the running of weddings and large dinners. His dream is to take advantage of his training and travel to London in 2009 to work and he has already received offers of employment from overseas.

More than 200 hospitality employers, apprentices, trainees and sponsors attended the event.

At Kingsway Christian College we nurture students to reach their full potential. Luke’s hard work and dedication have paid dividends and the foundation that he has built here will ensure that his has a bright and fulfilling future in his chosen career”, said Principal Jeanette Giroud proudly.
