Maths Wizard
Year 6 Kingsway Christian College student Cody Barnett is making quite a name for himself as a mathematician at the College.
In Year 2 he competed in his first Australian Mathematics Trust Competition (usually children start in Year 3) and he came in the top nine percent, earning a distinction. In Year 3 he came in the top two percent earning a high distinction. In Year 4 he came in the top 0.3 % becoming a prize winner and receiving a small monetary prize. He accelerated from Year 4 to the Year 6/7 class in 2008 and competed with the Year 6 cohort in the Competition. He again received an Australian Mathematics Trust prize for being in the top 0.3% as well as the Prudence Award for the student in each school who answers the most questions correctly in a row. In 2008 he also obtained the Diamond Award in the Conquesta Olympiad.
Cody has always had a love of numbers, learning to read the time from an early age and always being particular about accuracy. If he was asked the time he would say "It is 3:32 instead of 3:30". He is intrigued by finding the patterns and the concept of a google or googol (1 with a hundred zeros) or finding information on infinity....
As a school that prides itself on excellence, Kingsway Christian College is delighted by Cody’s achievements and looks forward to the challenge of helping him grow and achieve his full potential.
