Easter Services

9th April 2009

As a Christian school, Easter is always a special event at Kingsway Christian College. This year for the first time the College held separate Primary and Secondary assemblies with a morning tea (with hot cross buns made by the Home Economics department) in the middle attended by parents, board and life members and staff.
At the Primary service the audience was treated to the hymns “Antiphonal Kyrie” and “There is a Redeemer” sung by the Primary choir, two bible readings and an excellent  song and dance item by Year 5 and 6 girls entitled “Did you know?”. Principal Jeanette Giroud then illustrated the story of “God’s Trees” whilst it was being narrated by College Chaplain Debra Kerbey. This meaningful tale of three trees (one of whom became the Manger, one Peter’s boat and the third the cross on which Jesus was crucified) kept even the youngest members of the audience enthralled.

The Secondary service had Geoff Westlake, an ordained Baptist Minister and currently State Director of OAC (Outreach and Church) Ministries, as guest speaker.

A dynamic speaker, Geoff’s talk had the quirky title of “Odd Feet and Dominoes” in which he spoke of how the dominoes were set up for Jesus to fulfil the Old Testament prophecies about Him and the first domino that fell was the Resurrection. He challenged College students to “surf the dominoes” based on an animated clip he showed.
Year 11 and 12 Drama students participated in an powerful  dance piece entitled “Bitten” which started with the temptation of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and moved to present day portraying red ribbons representing our sins being placed onto Jesus. Held on the Thursday before Easter, the special services were a  meaningful climax to Term 1.
