Early Learning K-2

Our Early Learning Centre is a vibrant and energetic place to be. It is headed up by the Head of Early Learning (K-2), Mrs Karen West who brings vision and experience to managing this dynamic centre.

Curriculum

Our Early Learning Centre adopts an integrated and developmental approach to learning with a major focus on literacy and numeracy. Developmentally appropriate experiences are provided.

The Kindergarten at Kingsway Christian College prides itself on providing an enriched environment that implements high quality and developmentally appropriate programs in which all children participate. It takes into account all the developmental domains of cognitive, language, physical and emotional skills.

Pre-Primary focuses on an interactive and integrated program which encompasses all areas of the curriculum. The Language focus begins with a multi-sensory language program which allows children to read and write effectively. Our Maths program allows children to learn necessary skills and concepts in a hands-on learning environment which is fun, informal and without pressure.

Learning in Year 1 and 2 is a continuation of skills developed during the Kindergarten and Pre-Primary years. The focus is on literacy and numeracy and students are encouraged to develop solid foundational skills with the support of dedicated teachers who provide a safe learning environment.

Strategies

Play is an important part of learning and children will learn many facets of socialising and communicating as well as thorough development of motor skills.

As part of the Kindergarten’s Literacy Program we teach both Jolly Phonics and Let’s Begin 1(Nursery Rhymes Program) which have both proven to be fun and very successful in developing pre-reading skills.

Years 1 and 2 are a continuation of early learning experiences beginning to focus more on the conventions of reading and writing and development of skills and strategies for learning Mathematics.

Support

Early language screening and assessment of all students is conducted and assistance and support is provided to meet each individual child’s needs.

Parents are welcomed and encouraged to support the learning programs by offering assistance in the classroom. We value the input of home and Church and acknowledge the important partnership we have with parents to help children grow and reach their full potential.
