Channel 9’s Helicopter Swoops Into Kingsway’s Oval

Screams of delight greeted Channel 9’s helicopter as it circled the school oval at Kingsway Christian College. The loudest cheers echoed around the school as news and weather presenter Natalia Cooper disembarked the helicopter and approached the excited crowd.

Some students even made banners to welcome Natalia and her crew. Ms Cooper chatted to a very large number of students and shook their outstretched hands. The teachers enthusiastically joined in and seemed almost as excited as the children.

Natalia said “the students were great; so enthusiastic and friendly. All in all it was a great day and I look forward to working with the students for the rest of the term.”

Natalia came into the chosen Year 6/7 classroom, and gave the students a brief meteorological lesson. She showed the class three pieces of measuring equipment, provided by Channel 9, and explained how to take the various temperature readings each day. The results were announced on Channel 9’s weather report during the 6pm news each weekday for a term.

A few lucky students were interviewed by the Channel 9 crew, which they handled with great composure. “It’s not every day that a TV personality like Natalia arrives by helicopter in your school oval! It brought a great atmosphere of excitement to the College,” said Marketing and Enrolments Manager, Ruston Long.

Principal, Jeanette Giroud said, “What an exciting moment for the students and staff of Kingsway Christian College as the Channel 9 helicopter landed on our oval! Kingsway feels very privileged to be a part of this community connecting initiative.”
