College Art Exhibition 2008 — “The Journey Continues”
September 12, 2008 saw Kingsway Christian College’s most creative visual arts student’s works exhibited at the 2008 College Art Exhibition “The Journey Continues” in special celebration of the College’s twenty fifth anniversary. The College’s Auditorium and Mezzanine space was transformed into a stunning smorgasbord of visual excellence, which featured unique art works from Year 4 through to Year 12 TEE students.
Officially opened by Mr Luke Simpkins, Federal Minister for Cowan, the vast array of studio disciplines from drawing, painting, ceramics and printmaking, through to contemporary fashion and textiles works; wowed the impressive viewing audience of over five hundred. In his opening address Mr Simpkins stated his encouragement for young people creating something which is positive and made comment on the valuable contribution that the students of the College make to the local community. Mr Simpkins officially unveiled the College’s 2008 Art Purchase an indigenous painting entitled “My Story, My People” and spent his valued time speaking with students about their works. “To say that I was impressed would be an understatement. There were hundreds of imaginative and inspired contributions from the students of the school. I enjoyed a range of art from Indigenous inspired painted boomerangs to landscapes. The influence of artist in residence, Mrs Francine Riches, was very clear”.
The student work was of a very high standard and the exhibition set a great benchmark for 2009 and the continued fostering of Kingsway Christian Colleges’ valued visual arts students and the College’s Visual Arts. Creativity involves higher order thinking and it is today’s creative individuals who will be invaluable in solving the many problems our modern society faces, so that we all might be able to enjoy God’s world in the future. The evening was a great success by all accounts and also fundraised to support an underfunded overseas orphanage and to purchase much needed Arts equipment for its children.
